“The reason that I chose SMC is because here they actually make you feel like you
deserve
to go to college. They sincerely want to help you to get to where you want to be in life.”
“When you get to SMC, keep a positive attitude. Work hard, and play hard as well,” advises Danielle Schoenherr. “And that’s what SMC makes you feel like you’re doing. You’re having pure fun right along with going to school.” Part of Danielle’s immersion at SMC took her completely by surprise. “On Day One here, when I first set foot on the campus, I had, like, 30 people calling me and welcoming me. They would say, like, ‘Hey! Nice to have you here with us! What are you studying?’ Within my first week at SMC,” Danielle continues, “I’d made more friends than I knew what to do with!”
In her first semester, Danielle reports, “I wasn’t happy in Detroit, and I’d always wanted to live in California. So I thought I’d just give it a shot, to see if I could make a new life for myself. And I’m completely happy about the move. I heard and read a lot of good reviews about SMC, and one day I just dropped in to check it out. And I loved the fact that, when I first started walking around, it all looked more like a university campus than a community college. So on my first day of school,” Danielle recalls, “I was so excited to go. Had my books ready, my clothes laid out.… I was ready to get into it!”
Danielle, who currently spends most of her time at the AET campus, says, “I want to work with rock-’n-roll bands, to design their T-shirts, logos, and album covers. Drawing and designing actually make feel me happy and fulfilled. And with teachers like Ms. Robinson, who I study graphic design with, I know I’m in the right place. She encourages us to be as creative as we can be. And she’s always got such good advice to offer that I can really
connect
with.”
