“I would advise not to be afraid of going back to college. And at SMC, there’s incredible diversity; especially at night, when all the working people arrive.”
Bo Bigley of Nebraska just has one of those names. Could be rock ’n roll, no? “Yeah, I get that a lot. Or a football player or a porn star. But obviously,” he says with a huge laugh, “I’m none of those.” What Bo
is,
however, is a man in transition from one way of life to another way that he prefers. “I came out to LA to act and perform, and I thought I’d like to start my own production company. But then real estate reared its ugly head, and I learned that whole process. But there’s only so far you can go without a college degree.” So Bo is now locked in on Communication.
“I love it here at SMC!” he says with real enthusiasm. “I mean, I’m taking a broadcasting class, and my teacher actually owns a firm. And that’s one of the beauties about our teachers: They’re out there in their fields, in the trenches. So you’re getting first-hand information about what their craft is like on a daily basis. I went to journalism school back in the day,” Bo continues, “so I’ve always been interested in writing. Now I’m back into it, and it just feels like it’s all coming together for me.”
Bo states, “I’ve always been sort of an entrepreneur. And now I’m considering having my own PR firm, being an image consultant who helps people and firms to rebrand themselves and get the word out. I’m actually doing some of that right now: helping people and companies to restructure and present a more pleasing image.” And Bo adds this final thought: “Maybe we older students didn’t get our college degree, but we know what real life is like. So we’re back in school to learn, and this time, we mean
business!”
