Adam Maran

Film/ Film Club

“Josh Kanin is in charge of the Film Club, and he’s my professor as well. He has so much experience, and I’m grateful that I get to study with him.”

“I was brought up on movies, you know? Like, raised on Gone With the Wind,” says Adam Maran, for whom Hollywood was his childhood ‘backyard.’ “I grew up around film sets, because Mom was a makeup artist, and Dad’s a key grip who now wants to write and direct. So, who knows?” he adds with a laugh. “Maybe someday I’ll get to hire both of them for a film of mine.”

In his first semester at SMC, Adam reported, “I love the atmosphere here, and I love the teachers. But also, the students here are very kind and understanding. And—believe me—I’ve had bad experiences with kids in other schools not being courteous.” A born actor, Adam plans on keeping up his thespian ‘chops’ while he prepares for the day he’ll be saying, ‘And... ACTION!’ “I’ve already tried out for student films at SMC through the Film Club, and I’m just waiting for a callback today! The Film Club is great because we all share whatever we know about film, and we make a lot of trips to the studios to learn even more about the movies. And just now, I’m writing my own 10-minute mystery-thriller script; sort of that great old French ‘film noir’ stuff. I’m just really intrigued by foreign films in general, and I wouldn’t mind at all even shooting in Bollywood some day.”

According to current plans, Adam will transfer on to the Tarzana-based film school Columbia College Hollywood. “I want that four-year degree and the experiences that come with it. And I think the people here—especially the professors—are really and truly dedicated to helping me get there. In the meantime,” he adds, “I’m always looking for work in the Industry. Anything at all I can do to get my foot in that studio door....”
