Chantelle Eastman

Chantelle Eastman

AS Secretary/Law

“It’s hard to single out just one teacher, but I had Ms. Schultz for Poli Sci, and she is awesome! I just wish she taught more classes.”

She was in her third year at SMC, and felt compelled to offer some advice to other students. “I’ve used ratemyprofessor.com for every single class I’ve taken,” says Chantelle Eastman. “It’s a system that really clues you into who’s doing the best teaching at this college.” She came to SMC from Palisades High “with a whole lot of my friends, so I’ve never felt alone here. And now, through my involvement with Associated Students, there’s even a greater sense of unity. It’s really been a great learning experience.”

Though the law and politics would seem to figure largely in Chantelle’s future, she pushes herself to constantly explore all her options. “We have sooooo many great classes here, and we have people from all over the world to interact with. And SMC’s language lab here is even better than UCLA’s, I think. If you’re struggling with a language, you can just go in there with all those computers, and it’s mix and match and fill in the blanks. Plus, you’re also listening to another culture’s music and playing with all sorts of fun stuff. The lab is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn a language, and I heartily recommend it.”

But it’s definitely through her work with the AS that Chantelle feels is really shaping her up for her entry into the field of law. “It’s all been very enlightening to me,” she says, “because I’ve learned so much about rules of order and parliamentary procedure. It’s all very friendly and positive,” she adds, “but also challenging and quite business-y at the same time. I just feel that the AS has done a great job getting me ready for—drumroll, please—UCLA!”
