“Change
is a good thing, but Europe has deep-rooted culture. And sometimes
it's stability that keeps you connected to society.”
Stability
was a rare commodity while David Andorka was growing up-in Europe
and all over the U.S., including Hawaii. “My dad was in the
Army, so we were always moving. But I like to think that all the
different countries I've seen have broadened my perspective,”
says David. “My parents live in a really small town now,
and the people my age there seem really narrow-minded. I'm very
glad I'm at SMC,” he adds, “because it's such a good
mix of people and we're all very tolerant of each other.”
It's David's
ambition to become “a really fine actor, which is why I came
here. It's a tough career and you always have to scramble. But
when you're doing a show and see people enjoying themselves, it's
just the greatest feeling in the world,” he says. “When
it all works well, you feel like you're able to give people something
instructive that they can apply to their lives.” David is
currently being instructed himself in the realities of show business.
“It's tough to find a job, go to class, and still find the
time to audition and contact agents,” he says. “But
I'm persistent, and some day I'll be a scandalously overpaid actor,”
he says with a laugh. “But I'll never forget my friends.”
To keep his
perspective, while scrambling for classes and auditions, David
scrambles up vertical rock. “It really clears your head when
you've climbed a big cliff,” he says. “I like the feeling
I have when I've overcome something that I thought was impossible.
Persistence always pays off, in the long run.”
