Introducing SMC Alumni

Pete Saloutos Graduated with an AA degree in the early 1980’s. I am an independent, self-‐employed entrepreneur working for no single employer. My primary market is commercial (e.g., sports, destinations, concepts, architecture, landscapes). However, I also produce work for major international traditional and microstock photo agencies (e.g.,Corbis, Getty, Blend, istockphoto). My clients have included Nikon, Bank of America, Federal Express, UCLA, to name a few. After completing my AA, I continued on to become a certificated college instructor in my own right (with the help of my B.A. from UCLA, I taught at SMC for several years before moving to Washington), and have also taught online courses and workshops for professional organizations like PPA and ASMP over many years. I have been self-‐employed continuously since I graduated from SMC.
I have supported a family of five, put three children through college, created a retirement portfolio and purchased homes, rental property and undeveloped land based on my photographic accomplishments. I am especially proud of being selected as one of Nikon’s “Legends of the Lens,” and having one of my images selected for use as a United States postal stamp featuring an Olympic sport. “Legend of the Lens” is a high honor that results from one’s body of work and achievements. One of my most fulfilling experiences has been to publish a book entitled Paris in Black & White, an illustrated biographical journey of my awakening as a photographer. Another important personal achievement is the production an annual photographic calendar, 100% of whose proceeds are donated to a non-‐profit organization I helped create: Arms Around Bainbridge. This volunteer group is a 901c3 Corporation that provides financial support to residents of my town who face insurmountable medical expenses. 98% of proceeds go directly to our recipients, a statistic of which I could not be more proud. http://www.petesaloutos.com/

Matt Beard Left SMC in 2003 - “While still enrolled at SMC, and after having left, I went on to assist over 150+ photographers on assignments which took me around the world and back. In 2004 I was asked to manage and rebuild the photo studio at (then) Paris Photo Lab in Los Angeles. In 2005 I shot my first professional Advertising Campaign for Ritz Carlton (Team One Agency). -‐ from 2005-2008 I began my career as a full timeprofessional photographer. In 2008 My wife and I opened STUDIO 1444 in retouching jobs for myself as well as other photographers. In 2010 we sold STUDIO 1444, to spend more time with family...and focus only on my photography career. (and the economy was eating my clients left and right)
In 2011 (March-current) I have barely had a day off. My shoots have picked up exponentially, and I am enjoying one of the best shooting streaks to date.
