FACILITIES
Santa Monica College's 38-acre main campus is
located about a mile from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Santa
Monica. Satellite campuses are located in east Santa Monica, at the
Santa Monica Airport, in downtown Santa Monica, and at the former
Madison School in central Santa Monica.
Facilities include classroom buildings, library, performing arts
facilities, planetarium, art gallery and complex, photography gallery,
student center, gymnasium, stadium and track (used in the 1984
Olympics).
The campus has been undergoing a major physical transformation with new
construction and reconstruction projects, including a beautiful new
Quad, which opened in fall 2008. Also opening at that time was the new
SMC Performing Arts Center, located at the former Madison campus, which
includes The Broad Stage and Edye Second Space. Other recent facilities
on the main campus include the Humanities & Social Science Building,
which was completed in fall 2007, and a new Theatre Arts Building, which
opened in fall 2006.
With voter approval in November 2008 of a $295 million bond measure, SMC
will continue to bring on-line many new and modernized projects over the
next few years.
