SMC WINS AWARD FOR INCREASING CORPORATE Santa Monica College has won a state award for increasing its corporate training programs in which SMC provides training – under contract with employers throughout Southern California – in skills ranging from computer literacy to accent reduction. SMC is one of 25 community colleges statewide to receive the award, given by the Economic and Workforce Development Program in Sacramento . The “Exemplary Contract Sales Performance” Award was given to community colleges that increased their corporate training contracts at least 15 percent from 2004-05 to 2005-06. “We're very excited to be one of the recipients of this new award,” said Chito Cajayon, SMC's acting dean of workforce development. Over the years, SMC has provided a wide range of training programs, including computer literacy to employees of a metal beverage packaging facility in Torrance; accent reduction to non-native-English-speaking customer service representatives at a bank card company; office automation training to a veterans organization in Westwood; and customer service, sales and marketing to hotel and hospitality industry workers in Santa Monica.
