SMC Ranks 91 Percentile in National Math Contest

Santa Monica College finished in 14th place out of 153 community colleges in the 2005-06 Student Math League competition, putting it in the 91st percentile of two-year colleges nationwide.

Ranked individually, SMC math major Chan Ieong Kuan finished 24th in a field of thousands of participants.
The Student Math League competition – in which students are given multiple choice and written exams – is sponsored by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.

Altogether, 100 students from SMC participated in the math league.

“I am very proud of our students,” said math professor William Konya. “Their strong results show that the students in mathematics at Santa Monica College do outstanding work.”
