Okuno Wins BAFTA Student Film Award

Robbit, an animated short made by Yukio Okuno when he was a Santa Monica College student, was named Runner Up in the prestigious British Academy of Film & Television Arts’ 2006 Student Film Awards.

Altogether, six films won awards in the competition, and all the other winners were by students at USC, American Film Institute and Los Angeles Film School.

The awards were presented for films made in 2005. Okuno made Robbit in spring 2005 when he was a student in SMC’s Academy of Entertainment & Technology. Robbit is an animated love story that runs 2 minutes and 50 seconds.

Okuno, 41, of Los Angeles, is originally from Osaka, Japan, where he had a career as a video producer. Currently studying computers at a private school in Los Angeles, he plans on going into 3-D animation.
