Five SMC Students Going to UCLA on Regents Scholarships September
In what UCLA officials said was highly unusual, five Santa Monica College transfer students have each won prestigious UCLA Regents Scholarships that they will use when they begin classes at the Westwood campus Sept. 30.

Julia Dobrovolsky, Alexander Gabrovsky, Kristen Glasgow, Jiuan-Ru Jennifer Lai and Christoph Seitz will each receive $5,500 a year with additional funds available based on need. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and exceptional promise.

“It’s rare for there to be five scholarship recipients from one school in one year,” said Gail Ishino, UCLA’s Financial Aid assistant director. “It’s quite an accomplishment.”

The Regents Scholarship Program, established in 1962, is considered one of the highest honors awarded to students attending UCLA.

Dobrovolsky and Gabrovsky will be studying English, Glasgow is an art history major, Lai is majoring in computer science, and Seitz will be pursuing a degree in political science at UCLA.
