CLASSES
The Madison Campus is a thoroughly modernized classroom building
and grounds. Classes in performing and visual arts are ongoing,
and are currently offered through the Santa Monica College Continuing
Education program and the Santa Monica College Emeritus College
program. See the Santa Monica College website for current offerings.
In addition, performance classes for academic credit, including
master classes, will be offered as the Madison Site Theater project
is developed.
EXHIBITS
The Pete and Susan Barrett Art Gallery provides the community with
access to the best in contemporary art created by local, national,
and international artists. Each exhibit features an opening reception.
Call (310) 434-3434 for hours and details of the latest exhibition.
MADISON PERFORMANCE SERIES
The Madison Performance Series began in the Fall of 1999, and has
become a strong arts education component of the Madison Arts Campus
program. For the 2005-2006 season, we hope to be able to bring more
than 2,000 local public and private school students to this series
of diverse, free arts education events. See this website for past
and current events.
OPERA CAMP
Santa Monica College’s Madison Project and Los Angeles Opera
are working together to offer an in-depth youth Opera Camp. This
is a unique behind-the-scenes program that will help you discover
how to use your voice to express yourself through music (and much
more) under the guidance of Los Angeles Opera professionals.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN THE ARTS
The Madison Performance Series and performances at the Madison Project are ideal vehicles for introducing the work of emerging
and established artists to young students. Additionally, these performances
fulfill our vision of exposing young student performers to professional
groups who act as mentors and artistic role models.
Santa Monica College is actively working with the Santa Monica &
Malibu Schools and other public and private schools in this effort.
Efforts are underway to develop teacher training components for
each arts performance, allowing teachers to deepen the experience
back in the classroom. Additionally, efforts are underway to engage
arts organizations in the greater Los Angeles area in the development
of programs. The shared goal is to ignite "the flame of interest"
in every child and to deepen students understanding of all
people and their cultures.
