Film studies professor Paris Poirier’s classic documentary, “Last Call at Maud’s,” will receive a 20th anniversary screening this Saturday (June 29) at The Victoria Theater in San Francisco. The vivacious film is about Maud’s in San Francisco, which was the longest-running lesbian bar in the U.S. before closing in 1989. The documentary has played in more than 200 theaters across North America and was shown at numerous international film festivals, including Berlin.

Adjunct English professor Carol Davis gave a poetry reading Monday (June 24) at the Beijing American Center in China. She read from her new book “Between Storms” and her book “Into the Arms of Pushkin: Poems of St. Petersburg,” which won the T.S. Eliot Prize for poetry.

Ronnie Felder, student services specialist, has received a bachelor’s of business administration from National University and will be attending Cal State Dominguez Hills this fall for a master’s degree in educational counseling.

Adjunct communications professor Charmaine Kaimikaua’s paper, “Tales From the Olive Grove,” has been included in a book published in Italy, “Recuperation, Valorization and Maintenance in the Historical Centre.” Kaimikaua’s work is about preserving cultural heritage through tourist entrepreneurship for olive growers in Sant’Elia, Italy

Cosmetology professors Helen LeDonne and Debbie Perret have received a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Woodbury University.
